On 01.09. of each year, we are looking for an apprentice as a surgical assistant (m/f/d) – OTA.

What to expect

The training is carried out in accordance with the nationwide ATA-OTA Act in the current version and the associated Training and Examination Ordinance
2,100 hours of instruction at the Helios Training Center Plauen and at least 2,500 hours of practical training under expert guidance in mandatory and optional areas of application in the respective hospitals
Preparation and follow-up of operations, such as straightening the instrument sieves and materials
Instrumentation activities during surgery
Safe handling of medical equipment
Interdisciplinary cooperation and documentation of surgical procedures

What you bring to the table

A good secondary school leaving certificate or lower secondary school leaving certificate with at least two years of vocational training or professional license as a nursing assistant (m/f/d)
Good academic performance, especially in the natural sciences
Proof of health suitability by means of a medical certificate
Parental consent for applicants under the age of 18
A pre-vocational internship in the surgical area or on a surgical ward is desirable
You have a technical understanding and are physically and mentally resilient
The ability to work in a team, a sense of responsibility, order and cleanliness are a matter of course for you
Legally required proof of immunization against measles

As a surgical assistant (m/f/d), you are the right hand of doctors and surgeons - before, during and after operations: You prepare patients for various procedures, provide all the necessary instruments and equipment, check them for functionality and ensure that hygiene regulations are observed. During the operations, you hand the doctors the necessary instruments, such as scalpels, clamps or scissors, and pay attention to the patient's condition. After the surgical procedures, disinfect and sterilize the instruments and document the course of the operation on the computer.

In addition, during the training as a surgical assistant (m/f/d), you will learn about your tasks in endoscopies, which measures must be initiated in disaster situations, and how to care for patients before and after operations.

After training as a surgical assistant (m/f/d), you will work in the operating theatre in hospitals, in outpatient surgery centres or practices where operations are performed.
